nourishing beneficial gut bacteria

When it comes to gut health we mainly think of a balanced colonic flora. But what are the good and the bad bacteria in our gut?

Science hasn't yet found a final answer to that question, because there may be thousands of species, and many of them are still unidentified. But we do know about two groups of colonic bacteria that seem to be good for us:

Bifidobacteria and lactic acid bacilli or lactobacilli.

Both groups use dietary fibre as an energy source. Dietary fibres are carbohydrates that are not digested in the small intestine. And we know that in general, fibre-rich diets are healthy. The active ingredient of laevolac, lactulose, acts as a kind of fibre. It is food for beneficial bacteria in our colon and can help to support and restore a healthy gut.
