about laevolac

gently relieving constipation

laevolac is a gently acting osmotic laxative. It is applied to children and adults to treat constipation. The active ingredient in laevolac is lactulose, a non-digestible carbohydrate. This means, laevolac acts as a kind of soluble fibre, which cannot be digested in the human intestine. But it is food for beneficial bacteria in our colon.

laevolac supports the growth of the present colonic gut flora, which helps to re-activate the normal colonic function. Stools get softer and pass easier. So, lactulose helps to relieve constipation and supports the gut flora.

As standard treatments for constipation in children and adults, laevolac is usually well tolerated.

Flatulence and intestinal cramps may occur at the beginning of treatment and are typically transient. Nausea and vomiting have been reported. Overdoses can cause diarrhoea with potential complications, such as loss of fluids, hypokalaemia, and hypernatremia.
